~ Lubbock Online Business Directory

~ Online Yellow Pages

~ Company Websites

~ Word processing application, such as Microsoft Word

~ Blank Video Tape

USE OF RESOURCES:

Students will use these materials and resources to conduct Internet research and create original marketing materials, in the form of commercials, for local businesses in Lubbock, TX.

LEARNER PARTICIPATION:

Students will be expected to work in groups to identify a local business that contributes to the Lubbock, TX economy.  They will individually conduct Internet research to find out more about the company and it's contributions to Lubbock, TX through jobs, income, etc.  They may use city-sponsored websites, such as those listed above, to conduct some of this research.

The students will then reconvene to design a commercial that accurately presents facts about the business and its relevance to the Lubbock economy.  They will develop a commercial that accurately addresses the company's customer base (i.e. students, children, senior citizens, men, etc.).  They will document the commercial script in Microsoft Word or another word processing application.

Finally, students will act through their commercial scripts, using a camcorder to document their creation.  This video tape will be viewed by the entire class.

EVALUATION OF LESSON:

Students and the teacher will assess the presentations using an assessment form that allows grading on predetermined criteria on a scale of 1 to 5.  Students will also be invited to ask the presenting groups questions about the chosen organization/business following each presentation.
